The road trip begins

Well, we're back on the south island again, and old Storm has been taking great care of us. It's nice to pull over and see random sights whenever we feel inclined- such as these "Moeraki Boulders" which are apparently formed from minerals in the sea and are slowly churned into these large brain-like balls that eventully roll up onto the beach... weird.

We had a very cool encounter with a blue penguin colony (sorry- no pictures allowed there) followed by an equally entertaining encounter with a video juke box containing such classics as “Footloose” and “Africa” (Sue- you’d have been very proud!)

Now we’re in Dunedin visiting Mike’s old high school buddy (also named Mike) and he’s been a great tour guide. Yesterday we hiked out to some nice beaches on the Otago peninsula and saw a couple yellow-eyed penguins wobbling to and from their hill-top home, as well as some big, fat & lazy sea lions and several albatross flying overhead… very cool!

PS. It's me, Susan, who wrote that last post (but you probably guessed that seeing as who else would be jealous of your encounter with a juke box that plays "Africa")

Those weird Boulders - nobody seems sure how they formed when we visited. (Our fotos were obstructed by a bus of Japanese (women wearing high heels...).
